Who We Are

Welcome to the GMU Women's Club Ice Hockey team! Ever since our first practice in 2019, our team has been dedicated to providing an inclusive and supportive environment for players of all skill levels at George Mason University. From novices to seasoned athletes, we strive to foster a community where everyone can improve their skills, build lifelong friendships, and enjoy the excitement of competitive hockey. We emphasize the importance of good sportsmanship, both on and off the ice, ensuring that our members uphold the highest standards of respect, integrity, and teamwork in all aspects of their lives.

Founded by Ali Purvis in the spring of 2019, the team got off the ground and had their very first practices in a half size rink. The team did not have a coach at the time and only 8 members.

After having a few practices, the team played its first ever scrimmage against The George Washington University resulting in a loss of 0-9.

Our Journey

Growth & Milestones

In our second season (2019-2020), after gaining 3 coaches and 5 new members we went undefeated in the regular season. This success culminated in winning the Delaware Valley Collegiate Hockey Conference (DVCHC) Division III Championship, a testament to our team's dedication and hard work.

Setbacks & Rebuilding

With the pandemic, players one by one had to step off the ice. By the 2022-2023 season there were only 3 members left. However, through the determination of the 2023 Club President, Serena Robinson, the club grew to 13 members and 1 coach by the end of Spring 2024 all of which ready to get involved both on and off the ice.

Current Status

Today, we continue to grow and rejoin the DVCHC in competition, welcoming new members and building on our legacy.
